Pininfarina Battista: Performing electric sculpture

Elegant and sporty in its form, it moves silently, with a barely audible hiss. Absolute hypercar in its DNA.  Pininfarina Battista enchanted everyone from the first release at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019 when the prototype was presented.

After two years it became reality, with minor styling refinements and technical development with the collaboration of Nick Heidfeld on the Nardò circuit. Then the unveiled release on the streets of Turin and later at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Exclusive and produced in only 150 examples, all of which are customisable according to requirements. We have two configurations: the “Pure”, sporty and elegant version, and the “Furious”, more extreme and high-performing.

The Battista boasts staggering figures: the four electric motors, one for each wheel, develop 1900hp with 2300Nm of torque and a range of 500km, all with zero emissions. Its stability is incredible thanks to the very low centre of gravity which takes the hypercar to the highest levels of driving pleasure and performance.

Torque vectoring is managed with five different drive modes, giving the Battista different souls, and the character set can even be fully customised by the driver. The batteries in a T configuration are positioned in the central area of the tunnel and behind the seats, a technical solution that has made it possible to keep a very low driving position, freeing the lower area of the central cell from encumbrances.

The bodywork has active aerodynamic appendages, its sculptural forms enchant at first glance. The subtracted volumes have been shaped according to careful aerodynamic studies. The front end is a clear statement of sportiness with its generous air intake. The aggressive light signature of the LED lights makes the Battista instantly recognisable. Then there is the sculptural flank with its interpenetrating volumes that draw attention to the lower part, where the carbon fibre skirt emerges.

The upper area, with an empty volume around the passenger compartment, directs the flow of air towards the rear, where we find the mobile spoiler and the slender, horizontally developed lights. The generous aerodynamic extractor completes the technical area and links up with the underbody. The cockpit has been designed to maximise driving pleasure. The instrumentation and secondary controls are easy to consult and reach so as not to distract the driver.

The area above the dashboard provides a wide view thanks to carefully positioned volumes and screens. Depending on the drive mode set up, the screens and ambient light also change. The workmanship of the details, such as the driving settings selector, is very refined. The seats in the “Furious” version become even sportier and lighter.  The audio system has been designed in collaboration with Naim Audio.

The Battista is a concentration of design and technology, all surrounded by tradition. The prestigious Cambiano coachbuilder, through its “Automobili Pininfarina” division, has created a two-seater that is at the top of the hypercar range. It is the best tribute to its founder, Battista Pinin, to whom the car is dedicated.
