Foundation Majid – Ascona (Switzerland)
Solo Exhibition from July 4th to October 31st
Born in Zurich in 1968, the year in which the world’s squares were teeming with dreams and revolutions, Dondé has made rebellion both a stylistic hallmark and a philosophy of life. A professional footballer until 1996, with spells at Basel and Schaffhausen, he succeeded in channelling the physicality and adrenaline of sport into creative energy, making a transition that was as surprising as it was authentic into the world of contemporary art.

The Maestro’s love of art has accompanied him since the very beginning, rooted in a family tradition steeped in creativity. A passion that, over time, took shape through his singular vision, evolving into a genuine phenomenon of global reach. Following a formative period of study at the New York Academy, he made his debut to international acclaim, exhibiting in Monte Carlo, Tokyo, and Dubai, and established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in Neo Pop Art.

Dondé’s is a Pop Art reimagined and cross-pollinated: rich in learned references and popular iconography, yet always threaded through with subtle irony and deliberate provocation. His work brings together the irreverent spirit of the 1980s and postmodern glamour, mass culture and academic painting, in an explosive and sophisticated synthesis.

His new Solo Exhibition “Diva” pays tribute to the timeless luminosity of Italian mosaics, drawing particular inspiration from the Sicilian tradition. Vivid colours, refined details and consummate craftsmanship intertwine throughout a series in which Boris Dondé unites the language of Pop Art with original mosaic backgrounds. The sun, a recurring motif, infuses each work with energy and vitality. At the heart of the collection emerge such icons as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Frida Kahlo and Grace Kelly. The collection thus creates a dialogue between past and present, transforming tradition and modernity into an intense artistic experience, conceived to enhance any space with elegance and character.

Dondé does not copy, nor does he quote: he reinterprets. He takes the icon and passes it through the gaze of a man who has never ceased to believe in the transformative power of art. His images do not merely evoke: they excavate, shattering the surface of the visible to reveal a shared memory, a kind of contemporary pop archetype. His artwork opens a passage onto the recent past, onto that glittering night of the 1980s in which aesthetics were already a form of rebellion. And rebellion, for Dondé, remains to this day the only true act of fidelity to myth. A fidelity that does not bow, but reinvents.
Art is a necessity, and Dondé’s necessity is to keep open a temporal passage to the myth of the 1980s.
