The Swiss manufacture presents the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary, a timepiece that pays tribute to the N.A.S.A. “Silver Snoopy Award”.
The Swiss watchmaker has dropped the veils on the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary, a timepiece that pays homage to the “Silver Snoopy Award“, which N.A.S.A. astronauts presented to Omega in 1970 in recognition of the brand’s contributions to space exploration, including the Apollo 13 mission.
Snoopy: the guardian of N.A.S.A. space security. For over half a century, Snoopy has been the guardian of the N.A.S.A. space security programme. He is the symbol of the success of space missions and helps to find the light side of things even in the most serious situations. Since 1968, the “Silver Snoopy Award” has been presented to people or companies who have contributed significantly to the “success of manned space flight missions“.
Caliber 3861 – The beating heart of the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer 3861 calibre, the latest version of the legendary Moonwatch movement. It took 4 years to produce a calibre in line with the standards of the Master Chronometer certification while respecting the dimensions of the previous Moonwatch movement, 1861.
The Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary features a 42mm stainless steel case and a blue nylon strap, which features the Apollo 13 mission trajectory embossed on the inside. The silver dial features blue PVD angled hour hands and hour markers and an embossed silver medallion depicting Snoopy on the blue counter at 9 o’clock.
The dark side… of Snoopy! The dark side of the Moon is represented on the sapphire crystal Naiad lock back, using a micro-structured metallization technique. Snoopy appears inside its Command and Service Module (CMS) on a magic hand that rotates when the chronograph function is active. In the background, a disc depicting the Earth rotates once a minute, synchronised with the watch’s small seconds hand.
In addition to the black engravings on the case back, as a tribute to the Apollo 13 and the “Silver Snoopy Award”, the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary also features a blue [ZrO2] ceramic bezel ring with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The watch is of course presented in a special case.
The iconic quote ‘Eyes on the Stars‘ appears on the black background of the Universe depicted on the back. The Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary is water-resistant to a depth of 50 metres and withstands a pressure of 5 bar.
