A pivotal moment came when he met Riccardo Zipoli, a professor at Ca’ Foscari, who became his mentor. Zipoli’s influence led Barney to delve deeper into the world of art, evolving from simple photographs to a deeply personal artistic vision. This evolution culminated in the 2007 “Le Finestre di Venezia” series, unique works that reflect Venice’s intimate magnificence. Another transformative chapter in his career was his time in the studio of Lulù Ariggi, an artist with an eclectic past, where he absorbed the pure essence of creation. Inspired by Ariggi, he pursued studies of Mirò in Barcelona, an experience that revolutionised his perspective on both art and the world. From these foundations, a clear philosophy emerged: art is an act of love towards the world, a way to shape chaos and immortalise the ephemeral.
One of Barney’s most defining features is his experimental approach, blending techniques and styles to create works that defy convention. His 2012 “Nodi di Barney” exemplifies this approach, a fusion of Pollock-inspired action painting and Mirò’s vivid chromatic geometries. These pieces establish a dialogue between the energy of gesture and the harmony of colour, drawing viewers into a multisensory experience. Additionally, Barney is a master at breathing new life into materials often deemed “lifeless”.
Objects like mannequins, tailor’s measuring tapes, billiard cues, and even sports balls are transformed into design elements that transport observers into a dimension where art mirrors reality. In 2024, with the theme Shape of Art, Barney explores new dimensions of interactivity, challenging audiences to perceive art as an object and an experience.

For instance, his series of heads and hands are created in limited numbers before he moves on to new challenges. In 2025, another chapter of his artistic journey will unfold with the opening of his atelier in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. Here, the “Maestro” plans to continue his artistic exploration, bringing his vision into an entirely new context.
