It was so nice to meet Anouck Veyret and Julie Weiss in a cosy location: the hotel Hoxton in the fashionable Sentier street, in the second arrondissement in Paris. This ancient hotel with its rococo façade unveils inside two courtyards where our meeting took place.
Maison Veyret is a young and passionate jewellery house which has its eponymous signature in its beautiful V-shaped creations. This brand was born in February 2019, and the name is a homage to the jewellery shop of Anouck’s family in Nouméa (New Caledonia), which was founded by her great-great-grandfather, Alexandre Veyret, a watchmaker from the Lyon region. Anouck was born and grew up in New Caledonia. For this new collection, she brings all her heritage from Nouméa to Paris, a way to express her passion for gems and travels and to show the inspiration originated by her native island.
But let us listen to Anouck’s words: “My trips inspire this jewels collection. I moved to France in 2012, and I worked for many brands in the famous Place Vendome in Paris. My family owned a watch shop; later, they enlarged their activity selling bridal jewellery and becoming exclusive Christofle reseller. An important moment of my working life was the meeting with Frédéric Mané in 2017, the famous jewellery designer. He taught me everything because I must confess that I never attended a Design Institute.”
This first collection is called Melting Pot, and it’s a tribute to diversity, culture mixture, travel but also elegance and sensuality. It is also customizable on request. The earrings are made up of a unique system that allows you to change the chains and the style of the earrings as you wish: from clips during the day to the pendant earrings for the evenings. I tried several jewels of this fresh and modern Maison. I loved the most their iconic cuff that is available in different stones from diamonds to coloured gemstones and in the three gold colours.
I imagined wearing this Great evening cuff in an oriental Indian style soirée to complete a beautiful orange sari dress. I also wore the Tresse Pavé ring. With its pavement of 48 diamonds is the ring that contains the largest number of diamonds in Veyret’s collection. Through their jewels, I was able to have a journey following their style and inspiration but always with a common thread: the letter V that means voyage (in English travel) or maybe Vocation like Anouck’s predestination in this fascinating world of high jewellery.
Anouck also realises bespoke jewels and everything is produced in France and handmade assembled. Last but not least, she is an expert gemmologist, and this is a great asset because she personally chooses every single stone for her creations. Every gem is unique and has got its own story, and through her jewels, Anouck tells us the story of her nomad life.
