Palazzo Gattini Luxury Hotel and Alvino 1884 Hotel… The Sublime Excellence

Two fabulous flagships of the high-end tourist offer of Matera are intertwined. Palazzo Gattini, the first 5-star Hotel in the city which in 2008 revived the heart of Matera, is now flanked by a new gem that contributes to the services offered by the hotel group.

Palazzo Gattini is located in one of the most suggestive places in the world: I” Sassi di Matera”. The Palace, thanks to a careful renovation, has preserved the historical and architectural value of the interior and the eighteenth-century facade. Thanks to the prestigious pencil of the interior designer and architect Ettore Mocchetti, director of AD, international furniture magazine, Palazzo Gattini is a hotel that has given and will continue to provide prestige to Matera, Unesco heritage and European Capital of Culture 2019.

Each of its rooms is unique and unrepeatable: the attention to detail transforms every little detail into a gesture of true hospitality for a memorable stay. The deconsecrated noble chapel is today a space suitable for pleasure and business meetings, while in the right wing of the Palace is located the Restaurant “Le Bubbole”, whose name recalls an ancient construction technique to obtain lighter vaults.

On the lower floor, among cisterns and caves dug into the limestone, there is the Palazzo Gattini Spa with hammam, sensory showers, jacuzzi and flotation tank. Another strong point is the roof garden where, between aperitifs and candlelight dinners, you can feed your eyes and soul thanks to the view of the historic centre of the millenary city. But the novelty of this 2020 is Alvino 1884 which will be connected to Palazzo Gattini thanks to an electric shuttle in constant transit between the two hotels.

The new jewel is the result of the recovery of the old Alvino Mill, built in the 19th century. The entire complex was designed by Leonardo Ridola to create a steam mill with a mill for the production of pasta and bread. Twenty-seven rooms are distributed on three levels, inside there were a mill, a pasta factory and a mechanical bakery: the purpose of the whole activity was to realize a productive reference point inside the city to work the durum wheat, produced in the area of the hills of Matera.

The ownership of the structure has had ups and downs. Still, the mill had always represented one of the symbolic places of the milling activity of Matera until the 80s of the last century, when it was disused and abandoned. Alvino 1884 stands today on the market after a 4-year restoration. The Hotel is located along Via San Vito, one of the Matera entrances. The new jewel has spaces to host special events such as exhibitions or cultural evenings, or even weddings, business meetings.

On the upper floors, in addition to twenty-four rooms, an exclusive Penthouse Suite of 200 square meters makes Alvino 1884 the hotel Matera needed to accommodate an international demand for luxury. In the garden, the swimming pool, forty meters long, is the ideal place to spend a day in total relaxation, in the shade of the palm trees and with high-end service. Or the meeting place for aperitifs and evenings.

The guests of the two hotels can, therefore, choose two unique, distinct but connected places: Palazzo Gattini, the historical-artistic essence of Matera in the heart of the city; Alvino 1884, the exclusive design of industrial architecture, the northern gate of Matera. Sure to live, in both structures, an attentive and professional welcome, a personalized service for a stay suitable for every traveller.
