BRAFA… a flourishing chapter for Brussels’ grand art fair

The Brussels Art Fair, better known as BRAFA, will once again transform Brussels Expo into a temple of artistic excellence from Sunday, January 25th to Sunday, February 1st, 2026. With nearly 150 distinguished galleries from 18 countries, the fair will continue its long-standing reputation as one of Europe’s most anticipated art events, spanning over 20 disciplines, from antiquities to contemporary creations, Old Master paintings, classical African art, antique and designer furniture, silverware, textiles, rare books, and fine jewellery.

Klaas Muller, Chairman of BRAFA, speaks with palpable enthusiasm: “We are looking forward to the next edition of the fair. Our list of exhibitors is well advanced, and registrations have been coming in quickly. We have maintained the eclecticism of the specialities on offer, as well as the high quality of the participating galleries. This confirms the longevity of our event, which continues to evolve in its own unique way.”

The 71st edition marks a time of expansion, with 22 new galleries joining the fair, carefully selected by the Board of Directors. Nearly half are Belgian, with the others hailing from France, Switzerland, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Brazil, and the United States. Their participation underscores BRAFA’s international allure and its dedication to quality. Among the Antiques and Old Masters specialists, notable newcomers include Vagabond Antiques (UK), led by Joe Charter, whose collection spans from the second century AD to the nineteenth century. Arte-Fact Fine Art (BE), renowned for Old Master paintings, and Pelgrims de Bigard (BE), experts in fifteenth to seventeenth-century Flemish art, will further enrich this section. From Rome’s Via del Babuino, Carlucci Gallery (IT) will present Old Masters, antique furniture, and sculpture.

The field of decorative arts welcomes unforget Decorative Arts (BE), a Brussels gallery focusing on twentieth-century design, post-war furniture, Murano glass, mirrors, and bronzes by Line Vautrin, alongside French, Italian, and Belgian design classics. Galerie Haesaerts-le Grelle (BE) will present late nineteenth and early twentieth-century pieces, with exquisite works from W.A.S. Benson, Liberty and Co., and William Morris, offering a refined tribute to the Arts and Crafts movement. Virginie Devillez Fine Art (BE) will make its debut in the modern art section, presenting works by René Magritte, Pierre-Louis Flouquet, and Gustave De Smet, while also championing women artists who have long been underrepresented in the art historical canon.

Crossing the bridge between modern and contemporary, Pron (FR) will display ceramics by Jean Cocteau and Fausto Melotti, glass sculptures by Max Ernst and Pablo Picasso, paintings by Gommaar Gilliams, and tapestries by Maurizio Donzelli. Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art (DE), founded by Dr Ute Eggeling and Michael Beck, will bring an impressive collection spanning the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, highlighting both established and emerging artists.

Almine Rech (BE/FR/UK/USA/CN/MC/CH), a formidable presence in the global contemporary art scene, will feature alongside Galerie Greta Meert (BE), a key force in establishing contemporary art in Belgium. Mulier Mulier Gallery (BE) will showcase the imaginative world of Panamarenko, while Martos Gallery (US) will bring works by the legendary Keith Haring. Martins&Montero (BR/BE), with spaces in São Paulo and Brussels, adds a vibrant cross-continental perspective.

In design, Maisonjaune Studio (FR) will present furniture and objects from the 1950s to today, while Laurent Schaubroeck (BE) will unveil rare pieces from Brazilian, American, and Japanese designers of the mid-twentieth century. MassModernDesign (NL) will highlight objects that have shaped the very history of design. The jewellery section will sparkle with The Old Treasury (NL), directed by Miriam and Laura Schmitz, specialists in twentieth-century designer pieces. Completing the spectrum, Van Pruissen Asian Art (NL) joins the non-European arts section, offering masterpieces from Japan and East Asia.

Several returning exhibitors will also grace BRAFA 2026. From Monaco, Maison D’Art and Véronique Bamps will bring Old Masters and jewellery from the nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. French galleries Franck Anelli Fine Art and Galerie Alexis Bordes will present antique paintings and French works on paper, while Belgium’s Finch & Co and Grusenmeyer-Woliner, led by Karim Grusenmeyer and Damien Woliner, will exhibit antiquities, ethnographica, and sculptures from Asia, Africa, and classical antiquity.

Switzerland will be strongly represented, with six galleries including newcomers Almine Rech (Gstaad) and CKS Gallery (Geneva), alongside Repetto Gallery (Lugano), Galerie Von Vertes (Zurich), De Jonckheere Gallery (Geneva), and Objects with Narratives (Geneva, Brussels), each offering distinct artistic directions from Impressionism to functional collectable design.

To complement its artistic growth, BRAFA 2026 introduces a redesigned layout across Halls 3 and 4, while Hall 8 will transform into a culinary hub serving brasserie classics, sushi, and refined Italian cuisine. This year’s guest of honour, the King Baudouin Foundation, celebrates its 50th anniversary with a remarkable exhibition of masterpieces, including a bracelet by Pol Bury, a figure of Christ by Willem Key, a tapestry by Elisabeth De Saedeleer, Brussels lace, Bonnecroy’s panoramic view of Brussels, the Holy Blood banner, and the Gallic Treasure of Thuin. “BRAFA is a very important event for us because it is a wonderful opportunity to share these treasures with all art lovers, to inspire and engage them, but also to showcase our commitment to preserving this heritage and promoting art and culture,” notes Melanie Coisne, Head of the Heritage & Culture Programme at the King Baudouin Foundation.

BRAFA remains a cultural convergence of gallery owners, collectors, curators, patrons, and art lovers from across the world… a knowledge that continues to evolve with grace and vision.
