Pianegonda, www.pianegonda.com, a contemporary jewelry brand belonging to Bros Manifatture founded by Lanfranco Beleggia, unveiled a tantalizing glimpse of its new jewelry collection on September 21, 2023, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan, during the Milan Fashion Week. This presentation served as a captivating journey into the heart and soul of the brand. Pianegonda‘s jewelry pieces are not merely accessories; they are living narratives, each a testament to artisanal craftsmanship that has endured the test of time, exuding a fearless essence. Among these, the Assoluto collection, conceived by the acclaimed designer Betony Vernon and inspired by the origin and evolution of the cosmos itself, has been expanded with new iconic creations. These additions include pieces crafted in silver, exquisite leather and adorned with precious stones. Furthermore, a remarkable capsule collection, meticulously fashioned from 18kt gold and embellished with precious gemstones, is set to be unveiled, elevating Pianegonda‘s already timeless elegance.

The Assoluto collection symbolizes the very essence of the universe, representing the primordial source from which all life and reality emanate. It serves as a metaphor for truth and an emblem of the boundless creative potential inherent in every one of us. The American-born Betony Vernon, who later became a naturalized Italian citizen, currently serves as the Creative Director of Pianegonda. She was raised in an inspiring environment enriched with art, music, and culture. After earning a bachelor’s degree in art history with a minor in goldsmithing, she moved to Italy, initially in Florence and later in Milan, where she completed a master’s degree at the prestigious Domus Academy. Her expertise, talent, and creativity have paved the way for significant collaborations with some of the most renowned fashion and design houses, including Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Missoni, Gianfranco Ferré, Pampaloni, Fornasetti, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander Wang, to name just a few. Notably, her creations have garnered acclaim from celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, and Dita von Teese. Betony Vernon‘s work has also been featured in several international museums, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.

During my interview with Betony Vernon, I asked what her source of inspiration is: “Jewelry must always convey a message; it is not merely an ornament but an integral part of our personality. This collection celebrates Mother Nature and the Cosmos, representing the Absolute, signifying the celebration of life. It is the first collection I have created for Pianegonda, and I appreciate them for adopting sustainable practices. They are actively preserving ancient forests and own Villa Lattanzi, where they have established a sustainable environment through tree planting. This holds great significance for me. I collaborate with Pianegonda because silver and jewelry are durable items that can be given a second life. All their silver is recycled. The central theme of this collection is the symbol of water, as water is synonymous with life; without it, life cannot exist.”

Then I inquired about her plans for the future and she said: “Now it is time. I am living now “. Betony conveys a clear message about living in the present moment and emphasizes her intention to fully engage with the current time and experience life in the present.

Where do you create your jewelry?
“I need to be in my studio with my different materials. When I have a vision, I need to draw. I sometimes have a flash and I live this moment. “
You are famous for the sensuality of your jewelry and also for calling your jewels “jewel-tools”. Did you convey this idea in Assoluto collection?
“With Assoluto collection, I aimed to convey more symbolism. Some of these jewels are transformable, allowing you to wear them in various ways. I want to keep the sense of wonder alive and not take it for granted. I strive to stay in the flow.”
