Bassi Italian Jewels: The Luxury of Italian Craftsmanship

Everything started in Vicenza, registered as an UNESCO World Heritage city thanks to the architectural art of Andrea Palladio. The city is one of the finest examples of classical Roman architecture. Vicenza, whose name derives from the Latin “vincens” meaning “the winner”, lives up to its well-deserved epithet. Under Venetian rule the city flourished, enjoying great prosperity for more than 400 years. A curiosity: the city of Vicenza is the only Italian municipality that instead of its own banner has the Italian flag with the symbol of the city in the centre.

Vicenza’s destiny was to create beauty and new ideas and today hosts the Museum of Jewels, the only jewelry museum in Italy, where Bassi Italian Jewels is present with its creations. It is also the home of Vicenzaoro, the famous jewelry trade show that attracts so many exhibitors and attendees.

Within this time-honoured civic tradition, at the beginning of the 1960s, Mr. Adriano Bassi founded his own jewelry atelier in Vicenza – revealing his passion for the superb craftsmanship and high-quality gold items he is known for. Today the second generation of the Bassi family runs this company, preserving the ancient techniques and savoir-faire of Vicenza’s hand-crafted jewelry tradition.

This company specializes in gold chains, bracelets, earrings and bangles. A remarkable share of their work is produced for third parties and exported to the most important markets in the world. We can affirm that some of the most famous jewelry brands take advantage of Bassi’s skill and expertise. Christian and Massimiliano Bassi had the sensibility and foresight to combine the ancient art of handmade jewelry with modern techniques such as 3D design and programming and laser processing. Moreover, this company promotes sustainability and is a member of the Responsible Jewelry Council.

Bassi’s collections display a large selection of unique gold chains with the most varied motifs. The AUREA line whose name comes from the Latin and means “Golden”, is composed of beautiful 18-carat bangles of all kinds. These elegant designs make this line a collection that speaks of timelessness.

The EVOLUTION collection is ideal for a modern woman but also for a stylish man. The magic of Bassi’s gold chains of different sizes and shapes will enchant everybody!

I interviewed Mr. Massimiliano Bassi and I asked him: Your collections have gold as their leitmotiv. In particular, could you tell me something about the Bisantium collection? Is this name a reference to ancient Constantinople and Byzantine art?

Yes, the Bisantium line refers to Byzantine art. It is a contemporary and innovative collection with a classic flavour and was conceived as a single harmonious intertwining of spheres of various colours and sizes embraced together, a single golden thread that unites a work of art. Every single jewel is handcrafted. There are no welds but an ancient weaving technique is used. We were inspired by clothes and weaving styles of that time. Everything is covered by a patent for industrial and aesthetic invention, owned by BASSI”.

Most of your collections speak of a modern but also classic woman. What kind of woman are you targeting?

“ Bassi Italian Jewels aims at a dynamic, sensual, courageous modern woman with refined and classic taste. Our collections are created by hand by our master goldsmiths. Every single piece is unique. We believe that the value of a jewel must be timeless. We offer jewels for everyone, men and women, but above all for those who want to wear an emotion, bringing with you a piece of Vicenza’s history and a luxury jewel that will last forever. We do not believe in consumer products and jewels that follow temporary fashions … a jewel must be a work of art, an investment, a special gift, something unique.

This is why we create Italian-style jewelry with a classic look. We are very renowned as producers of both hollow and modern chains and solid gold as tradition dictates. Solid gold chains are our specialty, we sell our chains all over the world, especially in America. We believe the chain is the symbol of unisex jewelry and reflects modernity although it has roots in the most ancient image of goldsmith art”.

I would like to end my article on Bassi’s art with a poem:

Friendship is a Golden Chain,
The links are friends so dear,
And like a rare and precious jewel
It’s treasured more each year…

Time can’t destroy its beauty
For, as long as memory lives,
Years can’t erase the pleasure
That the joy of friendship gives…

What better thing than a gold chain to seal friendship and love?
