Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you, so why wouldn’t you want round the clock just stepped out of the salon locks? What’s the right way to use hair conditioner?

After shampooing, grab a bottle of your most favorite and most fabulous conditioner and squeeze a generous amount into your palm (if you have a long or thick mane of luscious hair, we’re jealous, btw feel free to use a little extra). Starting from the mid-lengths of your hair, apply the conditioner and work it down to the ends. Massage the conditioner into your strands (skipping the scalp), then use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to work through any tangles. Let your conditioner sit on your hair for 1-3 minutes so that it has time to really work its magic. If your hair is slightly thicker, coarser, or drier, you may want to let it sit for a minute or two longer.  Finally, rinse out the conditioner with cool or lukewarm water. And voila! You’re ready to step out of the shower, style your hair, and rock a soft and silky look for days (and weeks, months, years, etc.) to come.

How long should you leave conditioner in your hair?

Most conditioners only need to be applied for 1-3 minutes to fully hydrate and nourish your hair. Let the conditioner work its magic while you wash your body, shave, or belt out Taylor Swift in the shower…we don’t judge! You can leave Amika’s luxury conditioners in for a bit longer (try 5-ish minutes) for deeper hydration and repair, especially if your hair is dry or damaged and needs extra love!

When can you use a hair mask in your routine?

We have regular hair conditioners and hair masks that are deep-conditioning…so what’s the difference? Think of a regular hair conditioner as your hair’s daily glass of water (maybe punched up with a bit of Liquid IV for some ~flair~). It’s a quick refreshment for your strands to give them a little love after cleansing with shampoo. For example, Amika’s Kure Bond Repair Conditioner gives you a daily dose clinically shown to repair strands that everyday stressors have damaged.  On the other hand, deep-conditioning hair masks are like a full-on spa day for your hair. If you’re experiencing dryness, damage, or need a little extra TLC for your locks, that’s where hair masks come in. They can also sit on your hair for 10-20 minutes or even overnight, to give your hair its maximum wow factor.  We particularly love hydrating masks like Amika’s Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment mask…after all, who couldn’t use an extra boost of hydration? So when can you use a hair mask? Use hair masks once weekly or whenever your hair asks for more moisture and love. Apply the mask to your hair after shampooing but before conditioning.

Why should you choose a high-quality hair conditioner?

It’s tempting to pick out a recognizable and budget-friendly conditioner brand from your local drugstore or favorite Target location (we have one, too!). That being said, we can’t emphasize enough the benefits of using premium hair conditioners that keep your strands nourished, hydrated, and healthy.  Most high-quality hair conditioners work better on your hair, and they won’t always break the bank! The High Shine + Protect Antioxidant Conditioner from amika is a prime example of a top-rated, high-quality conditioner that fits within a reasonable budget. Check, check, and check! High-quality hair conditioners are more likely to offer clean and cruelty-free ingredients. Clean, chemical-free conditioners are a better choice for your hair and body health, but you’re also opting for a more sustainable and ethical hair care routine. Cutting-edge luxury brands like Amika are changing the hair care industry with a demonstrable commitment to high-performance formulations, clean beauty, and a cruelty-free ethos. Amika prides itself on creating innovative and chemical-free products built for all hair types. Plus, they’ve committed to sustainable and cruelty-free practices, including a pledge to reduce company emissions to net zero by 2030.
