celebreMagazine and the alchemy of transformation

Fifty years after her death and one hundred and forty years after her birth, Mademoiselle still dictates her untarnished avant-garde rules and is the leading lady of our Zeta edition.

Who more than Coco Chanel has transformed women’s fashion by stripping it of everything it was inconceivable to do without for centuries until she decided it was time for it all to go.

She rewrote the dictionary of elegance with the unprecedented codes that the new era required without knowing it and dressed women with comfort and sleekness, inviting them, first and foremost, to dress for themselves. Practical yes, but always with good taste.

Of the four elements, fire is the only one capable of transforming bodies, from solid to liquid, from liquid to gaseous. Prometheus challenged the wrath of the gods by stealing it to give to men, Aeneas took with him the sacred flame of Vesta as he fled from Troy to Rome, extinguished a thousand years later as the barbarians decreed the end of the Empire.

The fire of divine transcendence, of life, of destruction. In the world of Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio “When there’s no energy, there’s no colour, no shape, there’s no life”.

Who more than him has unleashed his inner fire to inflict a brutal backlash to the alabaster grace of Raphael’s Madonnas, put the prostitutes of the brothels in their place as muses, and rewrite the beautiful according to his canons made up of humanity, intensity, and raw truth.

Coco’s fire is wilfully compressed into the black and white that carefully cloaks the revolutionary spirit, in a Caravaggesque play on contrasts.

Those were the same years in which Marinetti’s futurist movement proclaimed its manifesto, amidst speed and engines that we wanted to ride, and that is featured in this summer’s print edition, either on the four wheels of Ferrari, Vyrus’ two, or via the high-end luxury of air and water.

The vitality of the colours, of the new talents, of the exploration of nature, find a voice in the section dedicated to art, which becomes a tool to descend the stairs of one’s own inner reality, and then ascend them once again, enriched with introspection.

Alchemists affirm that only in the light does matter reach a degree of permanence that not even the flames can destroy: it is the second phase of transmutation, that of self-awareness.

There are strength and harmony that converge in the functional beauty of Santiago Calatrava’s architecture, eternal magnificence that crosses the millennia through the ruins of the Stadium of Domitian, opulence that seduces, and enchantment that captivates like the siren song for haute couture and jewels: this is the energy that shapes the pages of the new summer print edition.
