Swiss Excellence on top of the World: Grand Hotel Kempinski Saint Moritz

Grand Hotel Day Angle

What if I told you that your next destination could be a place that looks just like a picture taken out of a fairytale book? Yes, this place is real. In the Swiss Alps, in the famous little town called Saint Moritz, for over 150 years, the Historic Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski welcomes its esteemed guests.

Hotel Kempinsky Saint Moritz

Located in the valley of Engadin in Switzerland, Kempinski hotel was built in 1864 at an impressing altitude of 1822 meters, surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains. Initially, the hotel was world-renowned for the natural spring discovered around 3000 years ago. The high society of the 19th European century used to come here and enjoy the spring’s healing properties. Today, the spring continues to draw people in and is accessible through a fountain located in the Spa area of Kempinski hotel.

The location of the hotel is idyllic. The summers surround Kempinski with green forests, and winters turn it into a haven for the lovers of snow sports. Saint Moritz is the ultimate alpine resort, the place where celebrities, business people, or simply the super-wealthy, come to enjoy winter (but not only) at the highest standard of luxury. In over 150 years since its official opening, the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski underwent a series of renovations. In 1887 it was given a more northern Mediterranean look, and in 1906 its tower corners were expanded.

The Michelin Star-Awarded Restaurant was added in 1927, along with parts of the lounge area and the entrance. And lastly, in 2001, the entire facade and interiors were renovated with an emphasis on maintaining the original grandeur of the historic edifice. Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski today is synonymous with luxury and absolute comfort in a fairytale-like landscape.

Accommodation

Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski offers its guests a total of 184 rooms. The numerous suites are divided into all kinds of categories to satisfy the exigencies of all the visitors: classic, deluxe, tower, or presidential. But unlike other hotels, Kempinski also offers its guests the possibility to choose from 27 private residences, for a more cozy atmosphere. The residencies vary from one bedroom (for a truly intimate feeling) to 5 bedrooms for those who choose to travel with family and friends and enjoy each other’s company to the fullest. Although at over 1800 meters over the sea level, there is no need to worry about being isolated from the rest of the world. Wifi is available across all rooms and residencies. Because the temperatures in winter fall way low below 0, Kempinski hotel provided all the bathrooms with a heated floor, for a comfort that does not take into account the whims of the time.

Kempinski Hotel is decorated in the typical Alpine style, which tries to recreate a home-like feeling but in an opulent way. Wood is essential and  tastefully insinuated in every room. The furniture, the carpets, and floor-to-ceiling heavy curtains all display a palette of various shades of the same brown deriving from the warmth of the wood. The spacious windows offer a breathtaking view overlooking the mountains that surround the hotel and the astonishing valley of Engadin.
