Edition 2022 was marked by the event’s anniversary and numerous special initiatives. The crowning glory of eleven days of festivities and extraordinary audience participation was the “Pardo d’Oro” awarded to Julia Murat’s Regra 34(Rule 34), which was presented in Piazza Grande during the closing ceremony.
Locarno75 is an eleven-day festival with a succession of great stars from the prestigious world cine firmament. An international atmosphere was in the air from 3 August onwards in the city, in Piazza Grande and in the theatres, where the surprising participation of spectators gave a tangible sign of the renewed desire to meet.
With 226 film programmes and 471 screenings, the celebratory edition brought together cinema’s past and future. The Festival awarded veterans such as Costa-Gavras and dazzling promises such as Daisy Edgar-Jones, the poetic animation of Gitanjali Rao, accompanied on stage by the young participants of the Atelier du Futur, and projects looking at multidisciplinarity and new media, opening with Bullet Train and closing with Alles über Martin Suter. Ausser dies Wahrheit. Consecrate Piazza Grande as a privileged venue for major national and international premiere screenings.
Major movie stars such as Matt Dillon, Juliet Binoche, Sophie Marceau, Aaron Taylor, and many others have been simply outstanding participants.
The beautiful mind of Locarno Film Festival President Marco Solari: The task of a festival is no longer to entertain. It must also educate. Help the next generations recognise the beautiful and the profound, hold their heads up against arrogance and prevarication, and believe in the values on which all human coexistence is, or should be, founded.
A part of the way lies behind us; let us walk on together. “If I could pick an enduring legacy, I would want the Festival; however, it continues to be always an instrument of truth and thought, never giving an inch in the battle to defend freedom and human dignity.”

Giona A. Nazzaro, Art Director and his consideration about the 75th edition: “An important Golden Leopard for cinematography such as the Brazilian one that has written key pages in the history of world cinema. A cinema is on the front line to defend a more inclusive and free world. Regra 34 returns Brazilian cinema to the anarchic splendour of ‘marginal cinema’. A bold and political work destined to leave an important mark. The body is political.”
This edition met the general public’s enthusiasm and approval, in love with Cinema World. All that remains is to wait until 2023 for the next Festival, which will definitely be full of surprises and important Jet Set Stars.
