The luxurious Sant’Angelo Luxury Resort is one of the leading hotels in the city of Matera. The Resort is located in the heart of the historic centre of the “Sassi” and is the result of more than twenty years of experience in the hospitality sector and the passion of its founders.
It all began in 1999 when Nicola Ruscigno and Anna Calia decided to buy some of the caves in the old town centre, even though at that time, Matera certainly did not enjoy its current celebrity.
The family was not discouraged and decided to found the Hotel La Casa Di Lucio, which still exists today. Later, with the growing fame of Matera, in 2005, the family decided to expand, building a new resort called Sant’Angelo.
Thus was born the wonderful Luxury Hotel that we admire today. The design of the latter was designed to fit into the surrounding atmosphere using materials and technologies with minimal impact.
The Sant’Angelo Luxury is rooted in the concept of the “Albergo diffuso”, and in its creation, the aim was to exalt the tuff rock of the walls, to house elegant furnishings and a soft and enveloping play of light, to be as faithful as possible to tradition, but at the same time create something unique. Its uniqueness can also be seen in what it represents, as it is the only 5-star luxury in the city of Matera.
In fact, the result we see today is sensational. Thanks to a skilful recovery, we have been able to realize where before there were simply caves and cisterns, rooms and common areas. Here at Sant’Angelo, you can breathe the air of uniqueness, and the experience becomes memorable.
