In a world increasingly drawn to mass production and fleeting trends, Lisa Lesunja, founder of Lesunja Fine Jewellery, stands as a quiet force of artistic integrity and visionary design. From her boutiques in Zurich and St. Moritz, Lisa has spent over two decades crafting more than jewelry. She creates companions, symbols, and storytellers made of gold, silver, and stones that carry a pulse. She studied economics before becoming a goldsmith.

During our interview, I asked her which combination of skills supports her work and the running of her brand. “Studying economics gave me a solid foundation in strategic thinking, brand building, and sustainable entrepreneurship. But I’ve always been deeply drawn to craftsmanship and artistic expression. Lesunja was born at the intersection of those two worlds, where analytical precision meets creative intuition. That blend allows me to design collections with a strong artistic identity while also growing an international, future-oriented business. I see myself as both a designer and an entrepreneur, and that duality defines the DNA of my brand.” This duality between creative work and strategic thinking still shapes her approach today, enabling her to develop concepts that are both artistically innovative and commercially viable.

While many jewelry lovers associate gemstones with certain colors, Lisa understands the fascinating diversity of the mineral world. Black diamonds, one of her specialties, get their mystical hue from countless inclusions that make the stone opaque. “The material is still diamond. Its properties are exactly the same as ‘classic’ white diamonds: the same sparkle, the same hardness, and the same light reflection,” she explains. The opacity, however, gives these stones a mysterious aura that perfectly aligns with Lisa’s aesthetic vision. Lisa is fascinated by diamonds of all shapes and colors. Whether it’s the classic brilliance of white diamonds or colored varieties such as yellow, pink, or black, each stone talks to her. She has the ability to capture gemstones’ light, arousing emotions, making every piece unique.

Her gemological knowledge extends far beyond black diamonds. Her deep understanding enriches her work in both substance and beauty. Lesunja uses stones of various colors and metals ranging from gold to platinum and silver. The inspirations come from what surrounds her: nature, the ocean, but also the hidden side of things, urban skylines, shadows, or unseen details. Lisa has also developed a men’s collection, always with a commitment to responsible sourcing. She also creates bridal lines and custom jewelry.

Lisa has gained international attention with her conceptually driven collections, showcased at important events, such as New York and Paris Fashion Week.

In her “Hidden Secrets Collection,” each piece is like a talisman, an amulet that holds a secret message or has a little compartment for something meaningful, a hidden space for personal significance that allows the wearer to connect intimately with their jewelry.
From Jewelry to Watches
With the Sankt Moritz Mountain Watch, Lisa steps into the world of watchmaking. The timepiecean hommage to the iconic Swiss winter resort, features details like a sun and moon in mother-of-pearl. After a successful prototype phase, the watch will be available around Christmas 2025.

When asked what inspired her to expand into watchmaking with the Sankt Moritz Mountain Watch, and how that process differs from designing jewelry, she shared:
“The Sankt Moritz Mountain Watch is a project very close to my heart, born from my deep connection to the Engadin region. I wanted to create something more than a timepiece: something that reflects a sense of place, a wearable piece of alpine identity. The design is inspired by the raw beauty of nature, the sun above snow-covered peaks, the glowing light of the mountains at night, the shimmering stillness of winter air. The watch reflects all of this: a luminous sun crafted from Swiss Luminee that glows in darkness, a moon made of genuine moonstone, and a dial of sparkling sandstone.
Designing a watch requires a very different process from jewelry. It’s about precision engineering, functionality, and technical excellence. Jewelry, on the other hand, often begins with a feeling, a moment, a symbol. With the Mountain Watch, I wanted to merge both worlds, to create a timepiece that is both technically refined and emotionally resonant. It’s not just a souvenir, it’s a luxurious artifact that holds the spirit of the mountains. A timeless piece for those who feel connected to something greater.”
Sustainability with soul
For Lisa, ethics and aesthetics go hand in hand. “Gold is the most sustainable material in the world,” she says. “You can melt it down endlessly without any loss.”

Her collections are built primarily from recycled or Fairtrade-certified gold, not only out of responsibility but out of reverence, for the Earth, and for the people who mine it. Every piece carries not just a story, but a conscience.

Lisa’s workshops are perhaps the most moving part of her work. In her Zurich and St. Moritz boutiques, she invites couples to conceive their own wedding rings. “It’s incredibly intimate,” she says. “They melt the gold together, they shape the rings with their own hands. It’s not just symbolic, it’s real.” For many, it becomes the emotional centerpiece of their marriage. She also opens her atelier to companies and long-time hobbyists, creating spaces where creativity and craftsmanship become shared experiences. “People don’t know what a goldsmith really does,” she smiles. “So I show them.”
What’s next?
Lesunja is evolving, from a high-end jewelry atelier into an international brand that reflects a unique lifestyle: one that lives between luxury and adventure, between alpine authenticity and modern elegance.

“I envision Lesunja as a way of life – for those who seek meaning in beauty, who appreciate true craftsmanship, and who feel deeply connected to nature and freedom.
In the future, Lesunja will grow not only through new jewelry lines or timepieces, but also through creative collaborations, curated objects, and limited editions that expand our world. Always with a commitment to authenticity, quality, and artistic relevance – rooted in St. Moritz, but with a global soul.”
Lisa Lesunja is not just redefining what jewelry looks like, she’s reshaping what it means. Her pieces are created with clarity of intention, artistic vision, and emotional intelligence.

Because in the end, Lisa doesn’t just create jewelry.

She creates connections.
