Ferrari SF90 Stradale…Hybrid with F1 Performance

Ferrari SF90 Stradale

The first Hybrid in Maranello…. her name is LaFerrari and we all remember her well. It was 2013 and it debuted in society at the Geneva Motor Show together with the McLaren P1.

But this time the hybrid performances are no longer the prerogative of the limited edition only, but become standard for the Maranello company with the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, the new supercar of the Prancing Horse that aims to open a new era for the segment.

Thanks to the joint work of a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 (alone capable of developing 780 hp) and three electric units (two in front and one behind and capable of developing 220 hp overall) powered by a lithium-ion battery, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale “puts on the plate” a frightening value of 1,000 hp of power, which is discharged on all four drive wheels to result in a 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and a 0-200 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Hybrid plug-in, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale has an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, runs on the Fiorano track in 1:19 (LaFerrari stopped the clock at 1:19.70 to do the same) and can be driven in fully electric mode for 25 km at a top speed of 135 km/h (while the thermal V8 alone allows a maximum specific power of 195 hp/l, the highest value ever in the segment, and a maximum torque of 800 Nm at 6,000 rpm).

AN ENGINEERING JEWEL

With a 20% stiffer chassis (40% more torsional stiffness) than its predecessors and a weight of less than 1,570 kg (13 kg less than LaFerrari), the Ferrari SF90 Stradale has four driving modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify.

The first two use electric motors and their Li-ion battery (the eDrive in particular switches off the V8 and allows zero emission driving, while the Hybrid combines the performance of both units dynamically as needed), while Performance and Qualify leave the V8 always on.

Ferrari SF90 StradaleIn the case of the Performance mode, the thermal unit recharges the electric motors, while the Qualifys takes full advantage of all the 1,000 hp made available by the system.

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is characterised by a very innovative stylistic language for the Maranello-based company.

Ferrari SF90 StradaleIt conveys the whirlwinds along pre-established “corridors”, thus allowing the new Prancing Horse supercar to develop 390 kg of aerodynamic load already at 250 km/h speed, while the interior environment shows off, among other things, a 16″ HD display and a series of F1-inspired controls. Prices and marketing times still to be communicated.
