Italian Police: Lamborghini’s Urus Performante at the forefront

In the heart of Rome, amidst the echoing historical marvels and the vibrant bustle of daily life, a momentous ceremony unfolded, etching a new chapter in the illustrious collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and the revered guardians of Italy’s safety the Italian “Polizia di Stato.” On a momentous Tuesday, December 12th, 2023, the cobblestones of Piazza del Viminale bore witness to an event that resonated far beyond its precincts.

Stephan Winkelmann, the esteemed Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini stood tall, embodying pride and honour as he passed the keys of a remarkable machine, the Lamborghini Urus Performante, into the steady hands of Minister Matteo Piantedosi.

A vehicle not solely defined by its sleek design or phenomenal power but now consecrated with a higher purpose, a purpose that transcends speed and opulence, a purpose steeped in service to humanity.

This ceremonious occasion heralded the arrival of the Urus Performante into the esteemed ranks of the Italian Highway Police, a testament to a twenty-year alliance that commenced in 2004 with the Gallardo, later replaced by the Huracan. The Sant’Agata Bolognese powerhouse had crafted a masterpiece tailored to the exact specifications of the Highway Police, adding another illustrious chapter to their fleet and joining the ranks of the Huracán LP610-4.

For this incarnation, the Urus Performante was not just a vehicle but a bespoke marvel, meticulously designed and fine-tuned by Lamborghini technicians. Adorned with the classic blue hue of the Italian State Police, adorned with tricolour bands symbolizing unity and pride, it stood as a visual ode to allegiance and national service. The reflective police logos emblazoned on its doors, the 360° blue LED lights atop the roof, and the resounding two-tone electric siren transformed it into a beacon of protection and reassurance.

But it was within the Urus Performante’s magnificent shell where Lamborghini’s dedication to service truly shone. The cockpit, a blend of sophistication and utility, was equipped with vital elements essential for safeguarding the public. An armoured weapon box, a flip-down message display, and a specialized compartment in the trunk housing life-saving equipment a defibrillator and essential service tools stood as a testament to Lamborghini’s commitment to safety and swift response.

However, among these critical provisions, one feature resonated with unparalleled significance: a portable fridge meticulously engineered to preserve organs. Nestled within the car’s confines, it safeguarded precious cargo, monitored ceaselessly by a display and data logger ensuring a climate conducive for transportation, a testament to Lamborghini’s dedication to aiding urgent medical missions. Beneath its sculpted hood lay a twin-turbo V8 engine, a powerhouse exuding 666 CV of power and 850 Nm of torque, propelling the Urus Performante from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.3 seconds a marvel of engineering in its own right.

On the exterior, the classic light blue and white livery emphasizes the dynamic design of the side view with the Italian flag. Yet, beyond its speed and prowess, this machine represented hope and swiftness, a lifeline in critical moments, racing against time to safeguard lives. Stephan Winkelmann succinctly said, “These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy.”

The Urus Performante isn’t merely a vehicle it’s a symbol of unity, an embodiment of valour, precision, and an unwavering commitment to protect and serve, forging ahead into a future where Lamborghini’s dedication to safety and innovation remains a beacon of unwavering assurance.
