What brought you to the world of blonds?
It is a good question what brought me to the world of blonds. But to answer this question, we must dive a bit deeper before I become a Master Blond. I have travelled worldwide since my 20s in more than 15 different countries. My personal preference for countries full of sun – beachy life. Because I was born and raised in Turkey, there is so much sun and warmth here, even during winter. Or maybe because I fall in love with the shades of hair created by nature. Natural sun-kissed blond, Beige and other Nude colours of blond that took my vision to another level. Since then, It’s been my life, not just a job, and I have brought my vision of blond to everyone who wants to see my perspective. In my master classes, more than 1,500 hairstylists around the world discovered for themselves the World of Blond through Cem Gumush Workshop programs and teaching. At the same time, learning is my other motivation and inspiration. I will always be happy to share my knowledge with my colleagues.
How did you learn about selective professionals, and why did you fall in love with the brand?
In my life, I have always followed the way of art. It means that if I am inspired, I can create the art. Since the moment I started my career a decade ago. I found out the ultimate formula for myself: how to create. It was 3 step formula for me. The first step is to get inspiration from the world, art, cultures and everything around us; love what you do. The second step is to learn or create a technique that will always bring you the perfect result and a happy client. And last but not least, the third step is the professional products which will give you confidence in what you are doing. During my career, I have been working with many different brands. But only one earned my attention. This is how I met Selective Professional. I fell in love with the brand because I totally knew that I could trust it. The Selective Professional products always bring me the desired results with the perfect colour, and most importantly, they keep clients’ hair healthy and shining. It would be a mistake if I didn’t mention the Selective Professional team. They are one of the most professional and kind teams I have met, inspiring me even more.
What is your method to get the perfect blond?
I had a chance to perform on one stage with the greatest colourists of our time. I discovered many different methods and techniques during the years that I have been working and travelling. I had a long road from geometrical perfect blond to a natural freehand balayage and seamless blond. And I found out that there is no ideal blond for everyone. Because each blond is unique and individual, for me, there can’t be two same blonds as there can’t be the same sunrises. So, the method to get the perfect blond is to create a unique colour that will suit each clientele. But the truth is that you need to work hard, try and try again, make many mistakes and risk failing before getting to the perfect method to get blond. As well as you need to know the goals of the products and tools you are using. Perfect blond is when you get your client healthy hair with the desired colour at the end of the story. Selective Professional products were always helping me to experiment and achieve the perfect blond.
What tips do you give your colleagues for consulting and choosing the technical service for the customer?
The biggest key to consultation is listening and asking the correct & proper questions. After listening, design your proposal and deliver on your client’s goals. The technique should be chosen according to the suitability of the hair rather than the model requested by the customer.
