In the context of these new jungles that are the post-modern metropolises of New York City, it represents a significant place for observing the titanic force of a figurative architecture that moves in the vast game of worldly theatricality.
The architectural promenade of the Hotel Plaza, a giant hotel 76 m high and 120 m long built in 1907, spread over 20 floors, which has 282 sumptuous rooms and 102 suites extra-luxury, is located in Fifth Avenue 768, in a bright position overlooking the green lung of NY, the Central Park.
The hotel in 112 years of history has changed many times from Conrad Hilton in 1948 to Donald Trump who took it over in 1988 and Richard Campbell in 1995. In 2004, it was purchased by the Israeli group El Ad Properities, which built luxury apartments there, the Plaza Residences, then merged in 2008 into the hotel holding Fairmont Hotels and Resorts owned by the Indian group Sahara India Pariwar and finally since last year it belongs to I Katara Hospitality, a fund controlled by the Emirate of Qatar.
For his extraordinary expression of monumental building which, in the collective imagination, suggests a crystallized architectural message marked by a super luxury hedonistic model of hospitality, loaded with the potential of its famous History, he has returned in his own right in the elite National Trust for Historic Preservation as ‘genius loci‘ to be preserved.
The Plaza has always reflected the ‘imago mundi‘ of American high society and over time has amplified its popularity, a success signed by the worldly event of 1958, the masquerade ball “Black & White” by the writer Truman Capote celebrated in the exclusive large ballroom of the Plaza with 450 guests of the jet set. The Plaza, as an excellent place, emotionally lived and reflecting an ardent hedonism, was chosen as the location of choice of twenty-seven famous film sets including: “International Intrigue“ (1958); “Barefoot in the park” (1967); “Apartment at the Plaza” (1971); Scient of woman” (1991); “American Hustle” (2013) Oscar-winning film and “The Great Gatsby” (2013), film that has sucked us into the charming atmosphere of the ’20s.
The structure was reopened in 2007 after a targeted redevelopment and aesthetic enhancement in a blend of tradition and modernity, which, together with the managerial development of recent years has seen the opening of boutiques and dining centers with the implementation of additional services such as: 24-hour butler service; access to the latest state-of-the-art technology; entrance to the wellness centres and gym; Meeting room and a magnificent Weddings Room.
The princely services is offered by the traditional bars and restaurants Oak Room and Oak Bar to which are added those offered by the new Champagne Bar and the Rose Club, the latter is strong of the refined inner courtyard Tranquillity Garden, with large windows and frescoed ceiling and with the already present legendary relaxation space Palm Court enriched with exotic plants and hyper-lit tubs.
