WiCA | Women in Cinema Award III edition @ Hotel Excelsior Venice – 7 September 2021
Alberta Ferretti is the first fashion designer to receive the Women In Cinema Award, created by Angela Prudenzi, Claudia Conte, and Cristina Scognamillo. The Academy has chosen to demonstrate the strong link between cinema and fashion union, finding its maximum expression in Alberta Ferretti’s creations.
A woman of extraordinary passion and determination since she was a child. She breathed fashion and elegance in her mother’s tailor’s shop, thinking that one day she would be the one to forge those fabrics and transform them into women’s clothes of great character to make women “feel good”. The Lady of Fashion has dressed thousands of women in her prolific career, giving them an extraordinary allure.
Countless celebrities wearing Alberta Ferretti creations are Sandra Bullock, Eva Longoria, Carolina Crescentini, Anna Foglietta, Amal Clooney, Cristiana Capotondi, Michelle Hunziker and Chinese star Fan Bingbing. All women of unquestionable success, but above all of the strong personality.
Alberta Ferretti perfectly embodies the ideals of the Women in Cinema Award, which since its inception has wanted to highlight the importance of women, their creativity and their talent.
The Award Ceremony, presented by Claudia Conte, will be held on Excelsior Hotel Lido di Venezia on 7 September at 6 pm at the Spazio Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo. Alongside Alberta Ferretti, a number of leading figures from the world of cinema and culture, both national and international, will receive awards, the names of which will be announced shortly. The awards are conferred by an all-female Academy composed of film journalists Fulvia Caprara, Alessandra De Luca, Titta Fiore, Alessandra Magliaro, Antonella Nesi, Chiara Nicoletti, Cristiana Paternò, Angela Prudenzi, Barbara Righini, Marina Sanna and Stefania Ulivi.
The Women in Cinema Award was presented last September in Venice to directors Francesca Comencini, Claudio Giovannesi and Christian Petzold, French actress Ludivine Sagnier, writer Chiara Tagliaferri, the president of the David di Donatello Awards Piera Detassis and journalist Antonella Nesi, who later joined the WiCA Academy. While the second edition, which took place in the Alice nella Città space during the Rome Film Festival, saw the awards go to Liliana Cavani, Paola Cortellesi, Riccardo Milani, Daniela Ciancio, Donatella Palermo and Claudio Masenza.
The WiCA’s cultural partner is the Italian Contemporary Toronto International Film Festival. During the event, will present Alice Filippi with the prize for best director, which was awarded to her “Last Second Mode”, due to the pandemic, the young director was unable to collect in person. The Woman in Cinema Awards is represented by a work created by master goldsmith Michele Affidato, consisting of a crystal base with a silver bas-relief painted with fire enamels. The WiCA logo was designed and created by Giuseppe Cacace, aka Rueto. Women in Cinema Award is realised and organised by Claudia Conte and Cristina Scognamillo, who is also in charge of communication.

The Women in Cinema Award – WiCA is a prize created by women journalists who have already worked together as jurors on other occasions. The aim is to highlight female talent in national and international cinema: actresses, directors, screenwriters, authors, producers and leading figures in the sector. It is not an award that looks at women only, even though it is dedicated to them, because there is a strong desire to pay tribute to those filmmakers who have shown particular attention to the female figure. They put them at the centre of their narrative or highlight her in crucial roles during the realisation of production.
The award winners are chosen from among the excellences of cinema and related arts, witnesses able to represent different cultures and different ways of telling stories and characters. Particular attention is also paid to personalities involved in social activities.
