Fabio Barone and Ferrari F8 Tributo… first test on track

The first track test for Fabio Barone is the Roman driver who will hunt for his fourth Guinness World Record this summer with his Ferrari F8 Tributo. The aim? To beat the time indicated by Google Maps along the Rome-North Cape route!

ANAGNI – The engines are warming up for the Ferrari Guinness World Record 2021. The feat will see the pilot Fabio Barone in the challenge to Google Maps to cover over 4,400 km between Rome and Cape North in the shortest possible time. The event, which will occur on 16 July, will be sponsored by the Municipality of Rome and the Farnesina and will be held in collaboration with the Federazione Cronometristi Italiani. The first tests staged on 26 April 2021 on the ISAM circuit in Anagni have allowed Fabio Barone to make the first technical trials with his Ferrari F8 Tributo. The Roman driver will attempt this new record.

Born in 1972, Barone, who has already set three world speed records in Ferraris and can count on a team of more than thirty professionals, comments on the ambitious challenge: “The idea came from a historical Fiat magazine from 1953, which told of four daring young men who set off from Rome in a Balilla to reach the North Cape, returning to the capital after a 45-day journey. For the time, that was a real feat. Hence the idea for an unprecedented feat: to cover the same distance that the Google Maps virtual car claims to cover in 49 hours in less time, all while maintaining the regular speed limits in each country. And finally, he adds: ‘Let’s wink at the famous German motorways, where there are only recommended speeds’.

A CHALLENGE WITHOUT PREDICTION Fabio Barone and his co-driver Alessandro Tedino will attempt to beat Google Maps in a spectacular journey aboard a Maranello F8 Tribute Rossa during which technology and social networking will play a significant role. At the beginning of August, the Italian crew will set off from the picturesque Via Dei Fori Imperiali, under the curious eyes of Julius Caesar, for a journey of over 4,400 km to be covered in less than the time claimed by the California navigator, namely less than 49 hours.

EXCEPTIONAL SPONSORS – Among the fantastic sponsors who will support the enterprise are Comte de Montaigne, Maison de Champagne de l’Aube; FAGE S.A., producer of the Greek yoghurt of the same name, a high quality, nutritious foodstuff. Calvisius Caviar appreciated Italian caviar, used since ancient times by fighters before a battle. And more: Caffè Europa, Italian roasting excellence, provided a particular pod machine for making espresso coffee strictly in the car, Chinotto Neri the thirst-quenching drink and the well-known brand Cavò Accessori, which made a unique key ring for the two co-drivers.

LIVE” EVENT – The entire event will be broadcast live by on-board cameras on the “PASSIONE ROSSA” social platforms under the monitoring of the Italian Timekeepers Federation and the ALLEMANO stopwatches. “The fine-tuning of the project took us almost a year. In particular, the F8 has been prepared entirely by CAPRISTO, the world leader in the production of specific carbon fibre parts, and taken care of in detail by MAFRA’s technicians,” continues the Roman driver, smiling. “We are working hard on the details, trying to make the car lighter and not only that… thanks to the collaboration with ABTECH LAB we will have a personalised carbon fibre shoe made to measure for our specific needs,” concludes the Italian driver, already the holder of three world records.

AT THE FINISH LINE THE BOTTLES OF CHAMPAGNE DELL’AUBE Alberto Colella, the Italian Ambassador to Norway, will be present at the finish line representing our country. And if all goes well, the pilot will uncork a bottle of Champagne Brut Grande Réserve in Magnum format from Comte De Montaigne, Maison of the authentic Champagne of the Aube. Finally, the Trophy will be an art object created by “light artist” Carlo Baldessari.

WE KNOW FABIO BARONE BETTER Fabio Barone, born in 1972, has been the President of “Passione Rossa“, the most important club of Ferrari clients in the world, for over 20 years. With over 700 events to his credit, Fabio – who likes to define himself as a Gentleman Driver – is also known as the Red Baron. Over the years, his passion for the Rossa di Maranello has led him to conquer three Speed World Records on the most dangerous roads on the planet. Starting in 2015 with the Transfăgărășan, the Romanian national road that winds its way through northern Transylvania to the foot of Dracula’s castle, he raised the bar the following year. He climbed the Tianmen Mountain Road, a concrete dragon whose 99 bends take it from 200 to 1300 metres in height, making it one of the most dangerous roads on the planet. Finally, in 2018, the new speed record in the spectacular canyons of the Dades Valley in Morocco confirmed Fabio’s position as the overall record holder.
